Fremont Fremont AC Transit comments, November 2001

What is lacking about AC transit service, as of November, 2001.

1. Bus service between Caltrain and Tasman light rail and the
Fremont-Centerville train depot.
This service should be timed to suit passengers who cannot travel
on scheduled ACE trains, so for now should have late morning,
early afternoon, and late evening runs.

2. Better timing of transfers.
For example, begin a trip at the Fremont Centerville train depot at 7:18 pm.
Wait on Peralta until 7:47 PM, then board a #215 southbound.
Alight bus #215 at Fremont BART at 7:58 PM, then wait at Fremont BART
until 8:13 PM and board bus #213 northbound.
Thus a bus trip from Centerville to Niles takes over an hour,
but the same trip is a six to eight minute drive in rush hour.

3. Info displays at Fremont-Centervile giving a comprehensive depiction
of which busses stop where, and their schedules.

Also publish this at

http://www.transitinfo.org/Altamont/Stations/FREMO.html

Very near (less than half a city block) this train station there are
three bus stops, not including the dedicated shuttles which stop
in the station itself.

3a. to the north, on Bonde: AC #253

but if you look at

http://www.transitinfo.org/cgi-bin/zoom/AC/ROUTE/253?MODE=ZOOM&ZOOM=1&XPART=0&YPART=1.5&Map.x=105&Map.y=102
you could never determine where you should wait for this bus.

3b. to the west on Fremont Blvd: Amtrak bus and AC #210, #211.

3c. to the south, on Peralta: AC #215.

3.d Unknown locations where AC #219 and #252 may stop.

There needs to be a map like below clearly posted at the train station:

           | ^ N
           |

           |
           |
        Fremont Blvd.
           |
           |

Also, try to keep info on the web more complete and up to date:
from example,

There is no map at
http://www.transitinfo.org/Sched/AC/219/
for AC #219

There is no listing for AC #252 at
http://www.transitinfo.org/Sched/AC/
but
http://www.actransit.dst.ca.us/fremont_newark/destination_guide.pdf
says bus AC #252 stops at the Fremont-Centerville train depot.

Also
http://www.actransit.dst.ca.us/fremont_newark/destination_guide.pdf
claims AC #219 serves the train depot, but I don't know where this
bus stops. See need for a station-area map, point 3. above.

4. After adjusting AC schedules to better match ACE service, cooperate
with ACE to issue transfer passes to ACE passengers like the
Amtrak Capitol Corridor issues to its passengers.

5. Add more evening service to the Dumbarton Express bus.

6. Sell AC Transit tickets at BART stations. Perhaps
vending machines such as the post office uses to sell stamps
could be used.

7.

end.
